Jodhpur Trip
On my first day in Jodhpur I visited Ghanta Ghar the clock tower which was built by Maharaja Sardar Singh from whom the market takes it name. It was an awesome experience to do zip lining. The next day I saw the following places :
• Umaid Bhawan Palace : It is one of the world's largest private residences. Named after Maharaja Umaid Singh, grandfather of the present owner Gaj Singh. The palace has 347 rooms and is the principal residence of the former Jodhpur royal family. A part of the palace is a museum.
• Phool Mahal : It is a beautifully decorated hall in the Mehrangarh fort, Jodhpur. The hall probably served the purpose of a pleasure dome of the Maharajas, and the female dancers used to stay here.
• Moti Mahal : It is the largest and brightest room of the five historic rooms present in the Mehrangarh Fort.
• Sheesh Mahal : Also known as The Hall Of Mirrors, decorative mirror palace inside the sprawling 15th-century hilltop Mehrangarh fortress.
• Mehrangarh Fort : Built by Rao Jodha (the founder of Jodhpur) in 1459 overlooking the blue city, the fort is known for its beautiful architecture.
• Jaswant Thada : A white marble monument located near the Mehrangarh Fort of Jodhpur. The memorial is an inscription erected in 1899 by Maharaja Sardar Singh, son of Jaswant Singh, in honor and memory of Maharaja Jaswant Singh II. It is used as the cremation ground for the Marwar royal family till date.
ABOUT JODHPUR
Jodhpur is the second-largest city of Rajasthan. Its 15th-century Mehrangarh Fort is a former palace that’s now a museum, displaying weapons, paintings and elaborate royal palanquins.
It is popularly known as the "Blue City" because the houses in Jodhpur are painted in blue to reflect the scorching heat the city bears throughout the year. The blue color is a good reflector of sunrays thus it keeps the houses cool.
