Jodhpur Trip

The following places we visited during our trip to Jodhpur:

• Ghanta Ghar: A historic clock tower built by Maharaja Sardar Singh, after whom the surrounding market is named.

• Umaid Bhawan Palace: One of the world’s largest private residences, named after Maharaja Umaid Singh, the grandfather of the present owner, Gaj Singh. The palace has 347 rooms and serves as the principal residence of the former Jodhpur royal family. A portion of it has been converted into a museum.

• Phool Mahal: A beautifully decorated hall inside Mehrangarh Fort, Jodhpur. Believed to have served as a pleasure chamber for the Maharajas, it was also where female dancers once performed.

• Moti Mahal: The largest and brightest of the five historic rooms inside Mehrangarh Fort.

• Sheesh Mahal: Also known as the Hall of Mirrors, this ornate chamber within the vast 15th-century Mehrangarh Fort is adorned with intricate mirror work.

• Mehrangarh Fort: Built in 1459 by Rao Jodha, the founder of Jodhpur, this majestic fort overlooks the Blue City and is renowned for its stunning architecture.

• Jaswant Thada: A white marble memorial located near Mehrangarh Fort. Erected in 1899 by Maharaja Sardar Singh in honor of his father, Maharaja Jaswant Singh II, it continues to serve as the cremation ground for the Marwar royal family.

ABOUT JODHPUR

Jodhpur is the second-largest city of Rajasthan. Its 15th-century Mehrangarh Fort is a former palace that’s now a museum, displaying weapons, paintings and elaborate royal palanquins. It is popularly known as the "Blue City" because the houses in Jodhpur are painted in blue to reflect the scorching heat the city bears throughout the year. The blue color is a good reflector of sunrays thus it keeps the houses cool.
