Jaisalmer Trip

We visited the following places during our trip to Jaisalmer:

• Jaisalmer Wind Park – India’s second-largest and the world’s fourth-largest operational onshore wind farm, located in the Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan.

• Bada Bagh – A beautiful garden complex situated about six kilometers north of Jaisalmer. Overlooking a mango grove, it features a series of royal chhatri cenotaphs built by the Maharajas of Jaisalmer during the 18th, 19th, and early 20th centuries CE.

• Kuldhara – An abandoned village established in the 13th century, once home to the prosperous Paliwal Brahmins. Today, it stands as one of Rajasthan’s most intriguing historical sites.

• Jaisalmer Fort Jain Temples – A group of seven exquisitely carved Jain temples located inside the Jaisalmer Fort.

• Maharaja’s Palace – Situated within Jaisalmer Fort, this palace is a small yet captivating structure showcasing royal rooms, artifacts, and intricate architectural details.

• Patwon Ki Haveli – One of the most important and elaborate havelis in Jaisalmer, known for its unique architecture, detailed carvings, and beautifully crafted balconies.

• Jaisalmer Fort (Sonar Quila) – Popularly known as the Golden Fort, it stands majestically in the heart of Jaisalmer city. Built of yellow sandstone, it glows beautifully under the sun and is a living fort filled with houses, shops, and temples.

• Jaisalmer Fort Map – We explored the fort’s layout using a detailed map that helped us understand its gates, pathways, temples, and palaces.

• Tanot Rai Mata Mandir – Located in Tanot village, this temple is surrounded by fascinating legends that add to its spiritual significance. It is a popular destination for travelers heading toward the Thar Desert.

• Thar Desert – Also known as the Great Indian Desert, it spreads across 205,000 km² in India and Pakistan, making it the world’s 20th-largest desert and the 9th-largest hot subtropical desert. Known for its dunes, food, culture, and vibrant desert communities, the Thar was a highlight of my trip. I enjoyed paragliding and camel riding there, and the vast golden landscape felt like a mini Dubai to me.

On the last night, I watched the mesmerizing Kalbelia Dance, also known as the Sapera Dance, performed by the Kalbelia community—traditionally known as snake charmers.

I also enjoyed both camel riding and horse riding during the trip, which added excitement and adventure to the journey.

ABOUT JAISALMER

Jaisalmer with its royal forts and palaces has the distinction of being the Golden city of India. One of Rajasthan's biggest tourist destinations, Jaisalmer's charm, despite the rampant commercialization lies in its massive sand castles, forts, and colorful bazaars.
