Ahmedabad Trip

 

In February 2020, we went to Ahmedabad and visited Kankaria lake, the second largest lake in Ahmedabad. It is located in the south-eastern part of the city, in the Maninagar area. It was completed in 1451 during the reign of Sultan Qutb-ud-Din Ahmad Shah II though its origin is placed in the Chaulukya period sometimes. I enjoying boating and riding motorboat there.

WHY DO WE WEAR LIFE JACKETS WHILE BOATING?

Used to protect the wearer in open water bodies, the life jackets provide safety in rough seas and are useful in maintaining the body in the optimum position to prevent drowning.

ABOUT SABARMATI ASHRAM

Sabarmati Ashram (also known as Gandhi Ashram, Harijan Ashram, or Satyagraha Ashram) is located in the Sabarmati suburb of Ahmedabad, Gujarat, adjoining the Ashram Road, on the banks of the River Sabarmati, 4.0 miles from the town hall.On February 2020, we went to Sabarmati Ashram.

The following we viewed there :

• The Gandhi Smarak Sangrahalaya (Gandhi Memorial Institution): A museum and public service institution dedicated to preserve the work and memory and commemorate the life of Indian leader Mahatma Gandhi. It is located at Gandhi's Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad, India on the banks of River Sabarmati. It houses tens of thousands of letters to and by Gandhi, as well as photographs and books.

• Gandhi's Charkha: Mahatma Gandhi initiated the Swadeshi movement by taking up the charkha and encouraging the Indians to spin their own cloth. The charkha became a symbol of self-sufficiency and freedom, so much so that the first Indian flag designed had the Charkha etched in the middle which was later replaced by the Ashok Chakra.

• Gandhi's Home: In the left side of the house, there is a room where he used to read and write. When we entered the house, there is a kitchen and the room of Kasturba Gandhi at the left side.

ABOUT AHMEDABAD

Ahmedabad, in western India, is the largest city in the state of Gujarat. The Sabarmati River runs through its center. On the western bank is the Gandhi Ashram at Sabarmati, which displays the spiritual leader’s living quarters and artifacts. Across the river, the Calico Museum of Textiles, once a cloth merchant's mansion, has a significant collection of antique and modern fabrics.
